Spring Cleaning Checklist
It’s that time again. Spring is finally here and that means many homeowners will soon began doing a bit of spring cleaning. Don’t know where to start? Here is a complete checklist that will help you clean your entire home, room by room.
Entryways and Hallways
- Clean baseboards and trim
- Wash switch plates, doors, handles and knobs
- Organize hall closet
- Clean entry mats and hall runners
- Sweep, mop and polish floors
Living Spaces
- Vacuum couches and chairs (Be sure to vacuum under the cushions!)
- Steam clean sofas, drapes, blankets and throw pillows
- Dust shelves, mantels, nooks and niches
- Wipe down lamp bases and lampshades
- Clean the TV screen
- Clean windows and wash windowsills
- Clean ceiling fans
- Organize your CD/DVD collection
- Sweep and mop floors (vacuum thoroughly if you have carpeted floors)
Bedrooms
- Organize and wipe down dresser drawers, nigh stand drawers and closets (Donate anything you or your children haven’t worn in the past year or so.)
- Remove everything from under the bed and sweep or vacuum (Move furniture to vacuum or sweep every inch of your bedroom floor.)
- Launder your sheets, comforters, drapes and pillow cases
- Sprinkle baking soda on the surface of your mattress while your linens are in the wash, let sit and then vacuum it up in order to remove odors. (Add a little essential oil to the baking soda for added odor removal.)
- Clean ceiling fans
- Clean windows and windowsills
Bathrooms
- Remove the items in your medicine cabinet and on your vanity before wiping down the surfaces of them
- Organize your toiletries and toss out or store anything you don’t frequently use or items that are expired
- Clean the drains of the tub and sink
- Scrub the bathtub and tiled walls
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect the toilet bowl, seat and reservoir (It’s recommended you remove the seat with a screwdriver for a deep cleaning.)
- Clean the bathroom sink and shine the faucets
- Wipe down all mirrors and vanity lighting fixtures
- Reseal grout and apply a layer of caulking if necessary
- Clean windows and windowsills
- Sweep and mop floors
Kitchen
- Remove all items from the pantry and then wipe down shelves and doors. Organize your cans, bags and boxes as you place them back into the clean pantry. (Toss out expired food and donate items you don’t need.)
- Sanitize and condition your wooden cutting boards
- Sharpen your kitchen knives
- Give your oven a good cleaning
- Clean your stove top (It’s recommended you remove drip bowls and plates to wash them in a grease-fighting solution.)
- Clean vents and hoods
- Defrost your freezer and then clean it along with the interior of your fridge
- Pull your fridge out of its nook to clean the floor beneath it
- Descale appliances such as your coffee makers and tea kettles
- Wipe down the back splash
- Clean the sink, unclog drains and shine faucets
- Clean the interior of your dishwasher
- Sweep and mop the floors
Dining Room
- Shine silverware
- Clean your crystal and china pieces
- Dust your curio
- Vacuum/sweep and mop the floors
- Wash table linens and chair pads
Outdoors
- Remove weeds from flowerbeds
- Clean your welcome mat
- Powerwash siding
- Sweep the porch and walkways
- Have the driveway powerwashed if necessary
- Clean exterior doors and apply a new coat of paint if necessary
